A DESCRIPTION OF WISDOM Read James 1:1 through 5:20 Does wisdom come from degrees and experience? Is wisdom revealed by performance, public opinion, and financial outcome? What is wisdom, really? Ask a group of people to define wisdom. Each one might describe that word differently. Scripture includes a unique explanation about wisdom but not a general definition. James used one sentence to describe wisdom. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (James 3:17). Notice his description of wisdom. Many traits are listed. Those traits may not always appear in lists of required components of a wise leader, but they should. The list James provided describes wisdom from God’s perspective. That’s the type of wisdom God’s people should seek and practice. Challenge for Today: Pursue God’s wisdom rather than popular opinions.
