A Day Early! Dont take these too serious. Cold weather can be the ultimate equalizer and we are all rusty as trombones. Satty #1 Power Rankings 6. Flying Squirrels The Squirrels are rumored to have 7 out of their 8 guys with only KWL transfer Zac Adams missing out. Bullard has been known to sleep-in during tourneys, but this park is so close to his apartment, I think we will see him this time. The Squirrels are coming in cold, and I think pitching will ultimately hurt them in this tourney. Rookie Kevin Doby was decent in the September Squirrels tourney, but we had lovely weather then and yellow bats. Jason Hewlett will need to carry this team, and his arm may not hold up all tournament. They could squeak a win in on Saturday, but not much else. 5. Wolfpack Much like the Squirrels, pitching will be a giant question mark for the Wolfpack. Lollio and Piasecki who are competing for the #2 spot in the rotation won’t be there, so it’s the Mark Brannan show. The Wolfpack will be bringing a rookie who could shine, but it’s tough to say anything about someone I’ve never seen play. They should score some runs, but I think in most games it will be less than what they give up. 4. Belgian Wiffles Right now, every single Belgian Wiffle has confirmed they will attend on Saturday, so shuffling the lineup around could end up hurting them. With the two rookies and the N&N Boys there, that is a very solid core four guys to work with. We finally get to see the two rookies pitch this Saturday, and if they are able to throw some strikes, Belgian could be the darkhorse team in this tourney. 3. Westside Warriors Ive asked Shore and Castle about a dozen times if Evan Bortmas is going to attend this tournament, and they still aren’t 100% sure. If he is there, it’s a completely different team. To be honest, I am not even sure who is going to be playing with Shore and Castle on Saturday, but I am guessing Woods and Voustos? Without Bortmas, their pitching will be extremely weak, and the Warriors could exit early. With Bortmas, they could contend for the championship. Castle has two Satellite championships to his name, so he knows what it takes to win these. 2. Holy Balls The Holy Balls have two Slow in the Snow championships under their belt, and wintery conditions on Saturday could make it three. I kid. Anyways, Pearson is capable of winning every game he pitches, so if the Balls can get a 2nd pitcher to throw some strikes, they will go far. This team is all about power, and I expect them to win by hitting the long ball. 1. El Diablos El Diablos won the #1 satellite last year, and they are bringing their core five players back to this years tourney. El Diablos are built to win these tournaments. They have strong pitching, can hit for power and average, and they run the bases well. A host team has never won a Satty before, and I believe that will finally change on Saturday. Diablos will most likely alternate between Skinner and Chandler on the mound, so there’s never an easy game when you play this team. I predict the Diablos win and have $120 subtracted from their league buy-in.
