A Day of Pride (Poem Dedicated for 107th National Day Celebration) Flipping the pages of my album, My hand got stuck to an old snap. That day inside the abode of Namselling, I could vividly recollect my mom’s narration: “That guy is our great grandfather and a true son” Gazing through the window, I could see the people carrying a bulky cereal and some with Cattles, With an astonished mind, I questioned: “Hey! Where are you guys up to?” “To the Chieftains!” they responded with a tiresome voice. Poen Nado stands straight like a giant tree With his bulging eyes and wide open mouth howls: “You Tortoise! I don’t have my day!” Those people rush like a child towards his favorite candy And returns home empty handed with a red marked skin. The other Poen has a brawl with Poen Nado, For he too wish and desires for what he had; They too were sooner joined by their allies Oh! This red flood of land, I am intoxicated with the noisy sword and a sharp screams! Now I no longer remember the length of my numbness, I could neither see the red sea nor a single warrior; Where have they all gone? This calm environment seem like a heaven Surrounded by the fairies and filled with the delicious flora fragrance A many yards away, I could hear the cheers, “Pelden Drukpa! Lha Gaylo!.....Palden Drukpa! Lha Gaylo!” With inquisitiveness, I ran like the fastest Cheettah And saw this heroic strong man. “Namgay! Namgay!” shouted someone from behind, Turning back with fitful mind, I saw my colleague alarming for the National Day Meeting. Was it a reality or in illusion? With a smile, I responded to DYT Secretary, “Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuk looks cool with his crown!” To this 107th day, Let us all remember this great mediator and our bold warriors We salute for the shift from pre-modern medieval society To a forward-looking, progressive modern era I too join and shout to the top of the world as they did: “Palden Drukpa Lha Gaylo!
