A Disciplined Life - From ascetic monks to busy everyday Christians, the life of following Jesus requires discipline. Primary among the spiritual disciplines is silence and solitude (quiet surrender and submission) in the Presence of God, the Lover of our soul. After that comes the accountability and encouragement of fellowship with other believers, fellowship characterized by authenticity, vulnerability, love, Grace, mercy and compassion, even in that sense of loving accountability. Heres a bit more on the subject of discipline from friend and Brother Dan Axtell: Is your life under control or out of control? Do you have good self-discipline or are you driven by your passions? Is your life characterized by the tyranny of the urgent or the calm of a steady and deliberate plan? A successful Christian life is characterized by discipline that comes from hard work, sacrifice and devotion. Colossians 2:1-5 says, “I want you to know how hard I am contending for you… and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.” Listen to the words of Paul: “Contending,” “disciplined,” and “firm.” There is a battle for your soul and the souls of others. In this battle, there is a great danger of being taken captive. Satan is real.Loose living is dangerous. The life that overcomes and blesses others is the life that is disciplined, firm and under control.
