A FEW THOUGHTS ON TIMING: -Precipitation moves in from south to north around noon. -Likely starts as snow and sleet along the I-81 corridor (NRV, Roanoke). Far southwest VA could see some frozen precip at the onset but it may start as plain rain there. -We should eventually transition to more of a sleet/rain/freezing rain mix later this afternoon. The longer we stay snow, the more snow we get. -Precipitation changes back to snow overnight. -My 3-5 call in far southwest VA is based on the idea that a deformation band is going to swing through tomorrow morning. If this does not happen, snow totals will be much lower than my forecast. The 3-5 call is high risk. I want you to understand this upfront. These deformation bands do not always perform as expected. -Precipitation ends across the area tomorrow afternoon
