A FRIGHTENING SCENARIO... But the young ones couldnt be bothered: I was on Lagos/Ibadan expressway, 4 of us in the car. The driver, 2 of my nephews both under 12 years of age sitting at the back and myself sitting next to the driver. I was enjoying the cruise until we ran into this ghastly motor accident involving a trailer and a jeep. About 3 or 4 men and women were caught under the trailer tyres with their brains crushed. On sighting the blood, bones and bodies, I started shaking like a jelly. I quickly instructed the young ones at the back to close their eyes and look away, I closed my eyes, too, and asked the driver to speed off the area as fast as possible. Arriving in Lagos, I told my uncle about the accident we witnessed on the way, I told him how frightened I was. Did you also see the accident? He asked the kids. Yes, dad, we also got the photos, These are the kids I instructed to close their eyes and look away, unbeknownst to me they had captured the scenery on their mobile phones. My worry is not why they refused my instructions, but how they managed to keep looking at those bodies, and so relaxed they took several pictures without fear. Whats happening in our society? What kind of kids is Nigeria raising today, or am I just the one nursing unnecessary fears? - Mark Bee
