Keep seating at the entrances of your home, so you can stop and rest or place items that you are carrying. 2. Remove tables, rugs, electrical cords etc. from high traffic areas. 3. Wear sensible shoes that fit properly with non-skid soles. 4. Use light with high wattage bulbs to see more clearly. 5. Install light switches at the beginning and end of all stairs. 6. Keep a flashlight at your bedside. 7. Keep a phone at your bedside and in the bathroom. 8. Always carry your mobile phone when outside walking or when driving. 9. Check out the many Emergency Call Systems available in your area. 10. If you forget to carry your phone, never hurry to answer it…they will call you back. 11. Using a hand held shower and shower chair is safer and easier for most people. 12. Consider adding grab bars in your shower and near your commode. 13. Get a small pull cart to move items, such as laundry from room to room. 14. If you have to carry something, use something like a tote bag…keep it light enough so that you can keep one hand free. 15. If your Doctor has recommended any type of Assistive device……use it Most importantly……..Stay active….keep moving! Physical Activity can go a long way toward Fall Prevention!
