A Flood Advisory for Hawai‘i Island has been extended until 11 a.m. This is the latest Hawai‘i County Civil Defense High Wind Warning And Flood Advisory Information Update For Saturday, January 3rd at 7:30 a.m.: The National Weather service high wind warning for the Island of Hawai‘i remains in effect through 12:00 noon today Saturday, January 3rd. Winds of 25-40 mph with gusts of over 60 mph are expected. The high winds are part of an advancing system that is forecasted to bring heavy rains and thunder showers in addition to the high winds. Currently strong wind and heavy rain conditions are being reported in various areas of the island and numerous reports of fallen trees, downed power lines and power outages have been received. HELCO crews are working to restore power in the affected areas. The following roadways and highways are closed at this time due to downed trees: - Highway 250 at the 4 mile mark in Hawi, North Kohala - Old Mamalahoa Highway between Ahualoa and Waimea - Highway 11 near the 19 mile mark in Glenwood - Highway 11 near the 53 mile mark in Pahala State Highway and Department of Public Works crews are working to clear all roadways. Motorists are advised to be prepared for hazardous road conditions and to be prepared for unexpected road closures. Please monitor local radio broadcasts for additional updates and to be prepared for possible storm conditions.
