A Fresh Start - Installment 8 of 10 The first blow landed against the side of her face with a sickening thud. She knew it was coming, all too well, but the initial strike still shocked her as if it was happening again for the very first time. She reeled from the force of the punch but she maintained balance on her feet. She knew enough not to fall too quickly. He would have to tire himself out some first or she would have to bear the full weight of his kicks. He reared back again and hit her square on the chin. She fell and in that one instant, he saw her spirit crumble. It was just the sign he had always been waiting to see and now it finally appeared. He broke her just like all those people in back in Brownsville had done to him. He stepped over her motionless body and reached inside the window seat where he had hidden his killing instrument. The knife he pulled out was the same one he used back in the Valley to slaughter his first victim. He calmed himself and moved back to where she had fallen. If this was going to be done right, he would have to be sure she wasn’t moving during his exploration. His right hand shot up and then down within a split second and the 12 inch knife drove down through her ribs and straight into her heart. She was dead in moments and now he could begin.
