A Great saying If business wants the goose ( workers ) to lay golden eggs (profits) then the workers have to be fed properly (Penalty rates) Thanx Bill Friday, 22 August, 2014 at 7:33 pm “Time is money” the catch cry of all businesses and the more billable hours that can be crammed into a day the more profit. Time is a commodity for sale -the same as petrol, fruit and vegies and it is a commodity that the workers have to sell. It is sold on an hourly basis and is bought by employers in exchange for wages –money– Now being a commodity it stands to reason that if the employers want to buy time out side of normal working hours then that time comes as a premium. The greater shortage of time outside ordinary time then the greater the premium for that time Now there are currently penalty rates that is an agreement as to what that premium should be and it is factored into how much time is available, and the economic input of that premium into the community and economy. This is how it works–If the employer wants a employee to work outside normal times to help improve the bottom line then that employer has to pay top dollar for that time This results in extra tax for the country and more spending power for the worker and his family This results in more GST for the country and a bigger return for the state It really is not rocket science is it —If you steal time from the workers then there will be a short sharp rise in profits and then a large drop of in business and a large drop in returns to the government I will put it another way . If business wants the goose ( workers ) to lay golden eggs (profits) then the workers have to be fed properly (Penalty rates)
