A Heavenly View I have been visiting this location for many years now a few times a year. Never getting the right conditions has kept me coming back over and over. This year I arrived to a forecast of thunderheads and mostly cloudy skys. This is can lead to some great rare light but more often results in never even setting up my camera and wearing my rain coat. A few hours before sunrise a huge thunderstorm came through shooting lightning all around and dumping an inch of rain in a very short time. Hunkered in my tent I was not feeling very excited about my chance of a good sunrise in the coming hours. Waking up it looked like the clouds were peeling out with some strong high elevation winds. I set up balancing the two mountains on either side of the frame and waited to see if we had some color for the fast moving clouds. Not getting much color the moments leading up to sunrise I choose to ad a 10 stop ND filter and try to draw out the hints of color that I new would come just as the sun began to rise. I dialed in a 6 minutes exposure and waited for the show. Halfway through the exposure the sun popped out for a minute and put some nice warm light on the South Sister mountain to the left and turned a few of the clouds to the right into a fire in the sky view. This was what I had waited for all these years and new that my patience had paid off. And A Heavenly View had been captured.
