A Holy Week Climb with a purpose in the mountainous region of General Nakar, Quezon on April 17-20, 2014. Sitio Macalla and Sitio Lagmak are far-flung communities of Brgy. Pagsangahan. The people of these sitios are descendants of the original Dumagat/Remontados (mountain people) of Nakar, Quezon. They live on planting rice and vegetables. They don’t have access to electricity and other basic social services. Getting there takes more than a day walking passing through forest, streams and mountain ridges. Around 150 grade school students of these sitios are waiting for UP ORG members and other volunteers to help them push through with the coming school year. Public education is free but most kids go to school without paper, notebooks and bags, thus, learning can be so difficult for them. Lets help them finish another year! FOUR WAYS TO HAVE A SIGNIFICANT HOLY WEEK: BE A VOLUNTEER o You need to have the heart and mind to help needy people. o You need to be physically and mentally fit with high level of endurance. o You need to signify and confirm your participation on or before April 07 through payment of contribution fee of P1,300. This includes your personal contribution, 2-way transpo, and meals during Outreach Penitensya. o You need to be ready to be amazed while trekking in enchanted forest, lonely trails and crossing crystal clear streams. BE A SPONSOR o You can donate money corresponding to the number of students you wish to sponsor with school supplies. For a total of P172, a kid can have modest school supplies (from Divisoria) which can last him a school year. o You can deposit your pledges to BDO - Jacquiline Laruan, SA # 553 000 2324, or BPI - Michelle Lucenada, SA # 3999 2473 84 BE A DONOR Since we are not only distributing school supplies to the kids, but stay in the community, we need more basic goods that we can get.
