A Klamath Falls man was found dead after a structure fire broke out along Memorial Drive on Monday night. David Michael Lyman, 67, was found deceased in his rented residence in the 2800 block of Memorial Drive. A deceased pet dog was found as well. According to Lt. Rob Dentinger, Klamath Falls Police Department, Lymans cause of death is still under investigation. The fire did not appear to be suspicious, according to Dentinger. Scott Rice, fire marshal for Klamath County Fire District No. 1, said the fire was accidental in nature. He said the most likely ignition point was a still-lit cigarette butt that was tossed into a trash container. The container held flammable debris, which caught fire and allowed the flames to spread slowly inside the home. Rice said the main source of damage wasnt the fire itself, however, but the thick black smoke it produced. Klamath County Fire District No. 4 units were dispatched to the residence at approximately 7 p.m. on reports of a fully engulfed structure. According to Chief Casey Haugen, the fire only damaged the interior of the house. Read more on this in the print and e-editions of Wednesdays Herald and News.
