A KwaZulu-Natal man was shot dead while trying to hijack a motorist in Montrose, Pietermaritzburg, on Friday morning, police said. “Police received a report of a shooting outside a residence along Neden Road in Montrose at 10am, and upon their response found the body of a man on the side of the road,” said Colonel Jay Naicker. Police seized a 9mm pistol and a magazine with a number of rounds nearby. “It is alleged that the motorist, 58, was returning home from town and got out of his vehicle, a blue Toyota Prius, when he was confronted by two unknown men.” Naicker said one of the men grabbed the car owner’s arm, took out a firearm, and demanded his vehicle. During the ensuing scuffle, the car owner produced a firearm and fired multiple shots at the armed men, hitting one of them in the chest, said Naicker. “Both suspects fled the scene, but a short while later the armed suspect dropped his firearm and fell to the ground.” His accomplice fled in a white Nissan bakkie. Two cellphones and a large amount of cash were found on the man. “Police are investigating a case of attempted hijacking and an inquest in respect of the death of the suspect,” said Naicker. - See more at: thedurban.co.za/hijacker-shot-dead-in-kzn-730/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter#sthash.P7xBJTvh.dpuf
