A LONER © Mike Lee One must deal with life on many levels, but there’s great escape in isolation for to be alone is peaceful…or it should be. Yet for some, ‘alone’ is fearful if their greatest enemy is self. Some know themselves as their accuser, not their friend. Some enjoy being all alone because they like their company. Me, I don’t care because when I accuse me I don’t listen. When I praise myself it goes in one ear, out the other. I am neither critic nor defender; I am me and nothing else. Others have opinions and I hear them every day, and some I listen to and honor; some I will accept, but most I won’t since life – to me – is way too short to care. I am not here to please or irritate, but given life to live I do as best I can without my being prompted or by measure by another or myself. I do not answer to another person – not my parents or my brother – and I rarely answer to myself because I do not care what I think either. I could not care less for feedback since one person’s views or their opinion means no more to me than others. So if you tell me you like me or you hate me, don’t expect me to react because in truth, I do not care. I have a life to live just as you do and I won’t tell you if I like or I dislike you. It would be much better if you’d keep your viewpoint to yourself because what you think of me makes no difference since, again, I do not care. It’s my way of guarding myself from the public and from friends and lovers. If I end-up on the last day of my life alone, that’s fine with me. I do, in fact, prefer it. So don’t feel you’re insulted if you’re not invited to my funeral. If you’re not there, I’ll not know it and believe me, I won’t care.
