A Lecture-meeting on King Kojing: King Kojong (reign years - TopicsExpress

A Lecture-meeting on King Kojing: King Kojong (reign years 1864-1907) navigated the destiny of Korea during the most turbulent decades in modern history. In 1907 when he sought to assert the sovereignty of the nation with greater vigor, he was forced him to abdicate the throne in favor of his son whom the imperialist forces of Japan viewed as amenable to their maneuvers and manipulation. Korea became a Japanese colony in 1910. Yesterday I chaired a lecture in which Dr Se-mi Oh from the University of Wisconsin, Madison discussed the ways in which the Japanese colonial rulers used the funerary protocol and rituals of the Korean royalty to suit their strategic interests. Prof. Oh Se-mi is sitting to my right and others in the picture are ambassadors of Ukraine, Costa Rica and Colombia, along with their spouses, and my colleagues from AKS.
