A Little Manna I have pondered all week why did a large amount - TopicsExpress

A Little Manna I have pondered all week why did a large amount of people VOLUNTARILY follow David into exile instead of staying with King Saul who was still in power. What did they calculate and assume to make this life changing and critical decision that also potentially meant life or death for themselves. I am convinced that this is the root cause of a bunch of problems in Christianity. Scripture says that David was a man after Yahwehs own heart. What does that mean? What type of heart does Yahweh demonstrate? Yahweh says He wishes that none would perish into eternal damnation but that all would have eternal life; moreover He put action and effort behind it by personally putting off His glory to die for everyones iniquity and transgression to make our salvation possible. That is the heart of Yahweh. The very center of Yahweh is seeking to serve others less than Himself. Thus Yahweh is a servant before anything else. The ultimate servant that has all power, but yet He does not have to serve His own ego, pride, and sense of right. This is what David demonstrated. David demonstrated that he would lay down His life for others, the measurement of servitude. A servant is measured by what manner of services they are willing to apply towards others that demonstrates an equal amount of denied service towards themselves. David had served his father and family in the sheepfold well without complaining. David had served King Saul and the people of Israel well without complaining. He displayed a true servants heart, and certain well intended persons recognized it and responded to it by following after it. David fought battles at the fore front where there was the most risk to life. David was the first demonstrate praise and bare himself before Yahweh. None of this means David did not share the same faults we all demonstrate; but he was willing to be a servant to the point of laying down his life for others and not asking others to lay down their lives for him. This is how David reflected Yahweh and Saul did not. So was the root cause for a lot of problems in Christianity? We have a lot of people who want to lead; but not a lot of servant leaders. The latter are people who Yahweh has shaped His own heart in. These are people who will asked more of themselves than others, set the example of service first, and demonstrate an effort of sacrifice that causes fear among the self-righteous.
