A.M.U. Students’ Union, A.M.U. Aligarh The General Body Meeting of AMU Students’ Union held on 29th November 2014 has resolved the following unanimously by the show of hands: • That Raja Mahendra Pratap was an illustrious alumni of our university who is well-respected by the entire Alig community. That AMU has a long list of donors and illustrious alumni like Raja Mahendra Pratap who have generously contributed to the cause of setting up a Muslim University at Aligarh. It is not possible to commemorate all of their birthdays as their number goes in thousands. Therefore, the Union considers it appropriate that only the birthday of our great founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan is celebrated officially. • That the present controversy being created around celebration of his birthday has nothing to do with the respect and honor of Raja Mahendra Pratap. That for 126 years the communal fascist forces of this country have never remembered him, and are today suddenly remembering him as their aim is to polarize the society and create communal tensions in order to fulfill their vicious political interests. • That the Vice Chancellor’s arbitrary decision to organize a seminar on Raja Mahendra Pratap is condemnable as it has been taken to please leaders of a particular political party and not for the benefit of AMU. We urge the Vice chancellor to remember the high stature of his office and desist from entertaining any petty political leaders who have no stake in AMU. • That the AMU Students’ Union shall not allow any outside political forces, be it from the Centre or the State, to play their politics of hate and division in or around the name of Aligarh Muslim University.
