A MASTERFUL COMBINATION: NUTRITION AND PSYCHOLOGY Marc David - TopicsExpress

A MASTERFUL COMBINATION: NUTRITION AND PSYCHOLOGY Marc David here, founder of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating. Here’s a personal confession: I have an over-the-top love of nutritional science. I used to be a little embarrassed about that, especially back in the days when so many people would label you a health nut or fanatic if you dared to think that nutrition was more important than what most people could imagine. Nowadays, I have an over-the-top love of eating psychology – especially how it beautifully synergizes with nutrition. The two together are a masterful combination when it comes to a real understanding of metabolic and emotional health. Allow me to give you an example: Scientists have been very excited about the hormone leptin. It’s known as the satiety hormone, and it plays a huge role in weight. Simply put, the release of leptin in the body let’s the nervous system and the digestive system know that it’s time to stop eating. If you had no leptin, you’d perhaps keep eating forever. So, let’s be thankful for leptin. Well, as it turns out, many scientists believe that in order to be overweight, the body needs to be “leptin resistant.” This means that our cells literally become unresponsive to leptin, and no matter how much we produce, we’ll still feel hungry and eat beyond what the body truly needs. Of course, the big pharmaceutical companies are working overtime to find a drug that will undo the leptin resistance state so we could all just take a pill and lose weight effortlessly. I doubt that such a magic drug will ever exist. Please don’t hold your breath on this one. Now, when it comes to leptin resistance, the nutrition information that’s most important here is that sugar is a powerful contributor to leptin resistance. Let go of sugar and you literally change your metabolism and appetite regulation in a huge way. It’s quite profound to observe this in a real world, clinical way. The sugar industry and major food companies don’t like this simple nutritional fact, so they hide it the best they can. But there’s more. And this is where eating psychology comes in: stress, anxiety, fear and worry are also big contributors to leptin resistance. So we can be eating the healthiest food in the universe, we can eliminate all of the sugar, but if we can’t relax a little more into life and find some places of inner peace, our metabolism will likely continue to be uncooperative. That’s why we need a true holistic approach to our food, body, and health concerns. We need an elegant and effective blend of psychology and nutrition. And that’s why I created the Eating Psychology Coach Certification Training. In this cutting edge training, you’ll learn extensive protocols for the most common and compelling eating challenges of our times – weight, overeating, binge eating, emotional eating, body image concerns, endless dieting, digestion, mood, immunity, fatigue and much more.
