A MESSAGE FROM CHRIS WALLING: Hi Everyone, We’re writing, - TopicsExpress

A MESSAGE FROM CHRIS WALLING: Hi Everyone, We’re writing, first, to say thank you to all of you who have already made a pledge to support our Kickstarter campaign for finishing Exit Zero, our documentary film on Chris W’s family, and Southeast Chicago’s decades-long struggle with industrial job loss and environmental pollution. Five days into the campaign, and we’re nearly a third of the way to our goal. We can’t tell you how grateful we are that so many of you have chosen to contribute! And thanks as well to those who have posted the link on facebook or passed it along to others in your network. Getting out the word is a huge part of this, so again thank you! We’re currently in Chicago, meeting with members of the Southeast Chicago Historical Museum about the Museum’s collection of historical photos, films, documents, and other artifacts. This incredible collection has been a key resource for us as we have put Exit Zero together over the past decade. Once the film is finished, we’re hoping to be able to help the Museum’s all-volunteer staff share the collection more widely via a website that will function both as a digital archive and another venue for telling the rich story of Southeast Chicago. Yesterday, we attended a Museum advisory board meeting with 12 others and heard a presentation by Museum Director Rod Sellers (below). He shared some of the Museum’s incredible treasures, including a unique scrapbook with handwritten commentary on the 1937 labor event, “The Memorial Day Massacre” (documented in Exit Zero), midwifes records written in Croatian from 1910s and 20s, World War II-era letters, and selections from the more than 5,000 images in the Museum’s collection – many of which exist nowhere else. The experience reminded us that although Exit Zero focuses on the multi-generational experience of one family, the themes it explores – immigration, deindustrialization, economic and environmental crisis – touch countless people in Chicago and far beyond. We’re excited to be so close to being able to share this story, and humbled by the help we have received along the way. Thanks once again! And, if you haven’t yet had a chance to make a pledge on Kickstarter, we’d be grateful if you would consider it. Even a $5 or $10 donation can make a huge difference! And please pass the link along to anyone else you think might be interested in the project… https://kickstarter/projects/722099824/exit-zero-the-documentary Best, Chris and Chris and Nhan
