† A MESSAGE FROM THE BISHOP † Message of Love to all who call Akure a Home, in celebration of the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe, XIII Nov MMXIV All of you people of Ondo State and all of you who call Akure a home. We have the honor to celebrate with all Catholics worldwide, the feast of Christ the King of the Universe. Many of you will recall that on the feast of Christ the King, Catholics all over the country do procession with the Body of Christ - the Holy Eucharist. This year we have come once more to sanctify our city with the Eucharistic presence of Christ the King of the Universe. This celebration is an invitation to all of you to take refuge in the Kingdom of Christ who comes to rescue you and I from the fog and dark cloud arising from human lust and error. Our city and our entire country will be better off if we take refuge in His Kingdom and abandon the evil of hate and sin. We must all let the word of God be the light for our steps and the guiding principle for our country - to build up a humane and just society. With deep sense of respect, I urge all Christians in government to lead with sincere love of God, neighbor and country. You have failed us in so many ways. You must do away with the Spirit of selfish self interest and corruption to embrace love of God and fellow citizens. Let the feast of Christ the King remind us all that it is better to build a peaceful and just country that we can all call our own than to destroy what we have build together. The commitment of our founding fathers is the calling of our time. Government must be sincere to our common project of building our homeland in truth, love and justice. The question on the mind and heart of all is whether the labour of our heroes past has not been in vain. I do not believe that the Nigerian soldiers cannot crush Boko Haram in less than one week, if it means to do so. The daily killing of innocent Nigerians and the ten of thousands of resolved murder, call to question our moral authority as a nation. Our leaders are no longer ashamed of corruption - I cannot see the pride and elegance that many of our leaders take in wealth acquired through corruption and raw theft. I invite you all to learn from our Lord Jesus Christ. He loves the world so much. Instead of acquiring for Himself the goods of the world, He denied Himself and sacrificed Himself and died for the world. The values of His Kingdom is what we advocate for our country and then we will be able to turn around our fortune for the better. Long live Nigeria! Long live Catholic Diocese of Ondo! Long live One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church! Jesus shall reign now and forever more! † Bishop Jude
