A MOMENT WITH MARLA On last week leadership expert, John Maxwell, spoke on the word SHIFT during his daily video message named A Minute with Maxwell. In his video message he always highlights a certain word and on the day when he spoke on the word SHIFT he said that It means to move from one side to another. I agree, however I believe it encompasses more than that. According to Webster SHIFT means to change the place, position or direction of. When I think of the word SHIFT I immediately think about the drill sergeant ordering the soldiers to do an about face. An about face is a total change of attitude or viewpoint. Its not a suggestion but its a command. The summer is quickly coming to a close and fall is approaching. We must SHIFT to another level of thinking, how we dress and how we live. Our current attire wont be sufficient in the new season. Its important to note that all external SHIFTS are preceded by internal SHIFTS. You can only become what you already are. A wife is a wife before shes a wife. A pastor is a pastor before he or she is a pastor. They carry themselves like a pastor and are called on by others like a pastor. Sometimes people will even call them who they are before theyve acknowledged and accepted it. I remember when the late Bishop Kenneth Moales was Pastor Kenneth Moales and even though I was fairly young and not a member of his church I picked up on his hesitancy to become a bishop. I surmise it was due to him taking the office seriously and no doubt having seen others who held the title but didnt have the fruit. People were calling him bishop before he was consecrated as one because he already was one. Bishop Moales had to SHIFT in his thinking in order to move to the next dimension that God had for him. Before Bishop went home to be with the Lord he had many sons and daughters in ministry and was a true father to many. As our current season is fading out we are on the cusp of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, which begins September 24th. Rosh Hashanah is a time of introspection where we examine our lives, repent for any wrongdoing and ask forgiveness of those weve wronged. Rosh Hashanah also places an emphasis on the relationship between God and man. Not just our dependence on Him but also His dependence on us to make Him known and to bring Him glory in the earth. God is depending on us! Thats a word all by itself!! Many of us need to do an about face so we can go to the next level for we cant stay where we are. I encourage you, even if youre not Jewish, to take advantage of the upcoming Jewish new year as the opportunity for a fresh start. Let go of what you need to let go of, finish your unfinished business and SHIFT!!!!!
