A MOMENT WITH MARLA Thankfully God has given me the fortitude to shed some pounds. Because of that many of the clothes and coats I used to wear no longer fit and I had to let them go. Some of the items I had to let go were designer clothes, suede outfits, etc. Sidenote: you dont always dislike what you have to release. Oftentimes you like and enjoy it but you realize that youre in a new season and what used to work no longer fits. Then you realize that you have to get new items in order to replace what you had which isnt always easy because shopping can be time consuming as well as expensive. Also, because I havent yet reached my goal I realize that I have to spend my resources, now, on things that also will not fit me in the future. Im cognizant that even though Ive changed Im yet changing. Im in transition. The life in between can be tricky and your footing can seem unsteady. Youve made plans but you dont quite know how things will turn out. God has given you the vision but He doesnt show you the process required to get there. He knows that if we knew all the steps we would probably run in the other direction. While we are on this journey called life there will inevitably be times when what used to fit us will no longer work for us. Those things that no longer fit us may be people, places, systems or ideologies. Like a pair of pants that weve grown comfortable in but are now too big for us we walk around literally holding onto them in order to continue wearing them until we come to ourselves and realize that we have to let them go. Your mind is filled with all the good memories of time past but it just doesnt fit anymore. That moment has past. In the trial of O.J. Simpson famed Attorney Johnny Cochran coined the famous phrase If it doesnt fit you must acquit. According to Webster acquit means To release from a duty, obligation, etc.. Attorney Cochrans statement/plea was given to the jury when he was trying to convince them that the gloves found at the scene of the murder didnt fit O.J. so he could not have been the murderer. His stance was since the gloves didnt fit O.J. you have to release him and let him go. Many of us are holding onto things and people that no longer fit in our lives. It is incumbent on us to release them and not allow then to continue hanging in our closet. If we keep them in our closet we have the propensity to revert back to the familiar at a later time when were most vulnerable. Let it go. I heard someone say Sometimes you have to burn your bridges in order for there to be no possible way to retreat. They may have been ok or suitable for you in the past and in a different season of your life but they no longer work. Release them so you can move forward. Stop making monuments out of movements. We see that in churches and businesses today. They used to be alive, thriving, the place to be or work at but they remained stuck in the past and lost their relevancy. You can never rest on your laurels. We must constantly grow and evolve for what worked yesterday may not work today. Principles are timeless but applications and methodologies are not. As you evolve so must everything around you. The outside will always reflect whats going on within you. Things cant remain the same. Dont be afraid to embrace change and let some things go even if they were very costly. Whats in front of you is far greater than whats behind you. Be free, harbor no resentment or animosity, let go of the things or rełationships that you need to and move forward for whats coming is better than whats been.
