A MOMENT WITH MARLA The Best is Yet to Come is a song that was composed by Cy Coleman in 1959 and lyrics written by Carolyn Leigh. The song was later made popular by Frank Sinatra in 1964 and was recorded on his album titled It Might as Well be Swing. The album was directed by Quincy Jones and accompanied by Count Basie and his orchestra. The song is still very popular to this day. The enemy of our souls tries to constantly convince us that our best days are behind us. We long for our lives to be like they were, we wish loved ones who have gone on were still with us, relationships that dwindled to be rekindled, to be reunited with those we grew up with, to have the figure we once had, to once again have the innocence of youth, to be able to eat what we want with no thought of our health or whatever it is that once brought us joy to return. Our mind has a way of only highlighting the positive things and not the negative things that happened. We forget the struggles we had, the hurtful comments that were made, how we were sometimes taken for granted, our metabolism was much faster, that it was a completely different world that moved at a different pace and all of the things that we didnt like. We have a way of romanticizing the past. Ecclesiastes 7:8 says Better is the end of a thing than the beginning therof. No matter what or who you had in your life thats no longer there, the disappointments or setbacks youve experienced, the betrayals you faced, being ostracized, the spouse that walked away or missed opportunities please know that your best days are ahead of you. Whats coming is so much better than whats been. God can do more for you in one day that would make up for the last 10 years. Stop looking in the rear view mirror of your life. Theres a reason why the rear view mirror is narrow and small. Youre not supposed to spend a lot of time looking back. Look ahead to Jesus for He is the author and finisher of your faith. Dont fret for better is coming. No matter how things look right now. You may be faced with seemingly insurmountable odds or feel overwhelmed like someone is standing on your chest and you cant breathe. The wind may have been knocked out of you but take courage for the best is yet to come! One of the lines in the song says You think youve seen the sun, but you aint seen it shine. Most of us have seen the SON at work in our lives but we havent really seen Him shine in our lives. God is going to shine in our lives. Hes going to show off in our lives. The sun warms, illuminates, brings life and a radiance to everything it touches. Numbers 6:24-26 is the priestly blessing. Verse 25 says The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. There is a tangible yet intangible blessing when a parent smiles at their child. It lets the child know my mom or dad is proud of me. A smile directed towards a child is the parent shining on them. Let me interject its not just a parent to a child but the smile can be directed towards a grandchild, godchild, niece, nephew or just someone you love. Its a priceless feeling to have someones face light up when you walk in the room. It says Im pleased with you. Please know that God is with you today and that its not over. The rest of your life will be the best of your life for the best truly is yet to come!!!
