A MORPETH charity had cause to celebrate again today. The Hollon Trust was established in 1881 by a former Lord Mayor of York. Richard Hollon married Morpeth girl Mary Trotter and set up a fund after her death to commemorate their happy marriage of 25 years. It was to benefit elderly people in her home town, with one of the stipulations being the provision of ‘a liberal meat tea’ on November 5 each year. Seventy five annuitants attended today’s event which was held at the Town Hall. Nowadays the Trust also helps support a variety of other charitable causes in the town. Anyone aged 75 or over who has lived in Morpeth for at least 16 years can apply to become an annuitant.
