A MUST Watch and Share Premiering at TIFF 14, is Megha - TopicsExpress

A MUST Watch and Share Premiering at TIFF 14, is Megha Ramaswamys hard-hitting documentary Newborns. The film attempts to provide a lens to the survivors of acid violence, to look forward and gaze back. They take us through the ennui of their domestic and public spaces in a nameless dystopian city, its factories, houses and motels, and its promises, never honoured. Featuring Laxmi, Nasreen and Sapna, this is a Recyclewala Labs production in association with Stop Acid Attacks Directors Note: Many of the ideas for scripting and filming Newborns came from the girls. While the visual language continued to evolve, it became clear that the film is not an observation of the survivors and their experience; it is the experience itself, just as it was expressed by the women. To me, the film is a testament to the possibility of a more evolved dialogue that can liberate survivors from being victims, and perpetuating this parasitic cycle of pity.
