A MUST for all you singers out there, or any lovers of singing! It is a great pleasure to share this with you, a TV recording of Mahlers Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Songs of a Wayfarer) that Sams mentor and dear friend, the great british baritone Benjamin Luxon gave to us recently. It was made in 1978, and has an amazing story behind it! Ben was settling down for Christmas Day celebrations with friends and family, when the phone rang. It was the celebrated conductor, Sir Bernard Haitink calling. His soloist for that afternoons televised performance in Amsterdam was sick, and he needed Ben to immediately take a private plane over to Holland and save the day! Ben did just that. With no rehearsal or warm-up he went on stage at the Concertgebouw and sang like a god. And he was home in time for Christmas dinner! Please take time to watch and share this incredible artist at his very finest. It is up there with the most beautiful singing you may ever hear.
