A Mauldin man was arrested and charged with child abuse after an infant girl was taken to the hospital for injuries consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome, authorities said. Kyle Patrick Weiss, 25, of 207 Lindseybrook Trail, was charged with abuse to inflict great bodily injury upon a child, according to a warrant. The warrant alleges that the incident happened on Oct. 4 when the 7-week-old victim became ill while in Weiss custody and would not wake up. She was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital suffering from hemorrhaging of the brain and eyes, according to the warrant. A forensic pediatrician told deputies that the injuries were consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome, the warrant said. Weiss was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $20,000, said Drew Pinciaro, a Sheriffs Office spokesman. Weiss was released on Friday, Pinciaro said.
