A Message from Executive Director Allen Roth in Jerusalem: Yesterday, my plane touched down in Ben Gurion airport in Israel, at the time of the funerals of the three teenagers who were executed by terrorists. When I reached Jerusalem, the usually bustling streets were deserted. People were in their homes watching the emotionally charged funerals of three innocents whose lives were cut short as they traveled home from school to be with their families. Israel is a very small country. When individual citizens experience tragedy, the whole country mourns. I felt that as I walked the streets of Jerusalem. At the graveside, Israels Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke as a family member who embodied the feelings of the nation. Looking at the three mothers who lost their sons he said, You taught the whole world what a mothers cry is and what a mothers love is. Blessed are the boys of such parents and families, and how terrible it is that fate has separated you from them through an evil that is incomprehensible. Netanyahu went on the explain the difference between Israel and its neighbors. They, he said, celebrate death while we celebrate life. Compare these words, with the words of the mother of one of terrorists who helped execute these boys. She told an interviewer that if her son was a kidnapper: If he truly did it. Ill be proud of him till my final day. Day in and day out the tiny democratic State of Israel must protect itself from the evil ones who surround it. They do not ask others to share this burden, and anyone who has visited Israel will attest it is one of the safest places on Earth. And one way they will thumb their noses at their adversaries is by moving on from this tragedy by celebrating life.
