A Message from Rev. Muata: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beloved Community, The month of July ushers in the season of summer. Schools are out, people are planning vacations, and the weather allows outdoor fun, e.g., barbeques, camping, etc. It is the month our nation celebrates freedom as a defining principle of being. Freedom is a birthright from which we cannot be separate. Regardless of our physical circumstances we know that freedom is our natural state. Dr. Holmes tells us that bondage, the very opposite of freedom, is not God ordained. In the SOM textbook he says that, we are only bound because we are first free. Freedom is our natural state, our natural condition or state of being. To claim our birthright, which is the freedom to which we are referring, we must remember that we are always at choice. Choosing differently is an option that is always available to us. Suffering itself is the result of forgetting this one simple truth. We always have the ability to choose something different. Choice is the wand we wave as we state our intentions. It is the organizing power of desire, whose root comes from the Latin to create or sire, and the energizing presence in our intentions. Choice is the scalpel we use to sculpt our lives. It is the brush stroke on the canvas of our living masterpiece. All of life is the result of the choices we make. If we truly have a desire to experience life differently we simply choose to be different with the life we have and that choice is the freedom, the wand, the scale that makes it so. Take a moment to assess the choices you have made up until this moment. This holiday and all days please remember that you always have the option to choose differently, to choose again.
