A Message from our Fall Plant Auction Chair.... Hello fellow gardeners! Autumn is definitely in the air and it is time to think about the CHS Fall Auction. It will be at Tolland County Agricultural (TAC) in Vernon on the 27th of September. I’ll be there from 4:30 with set up help starting at 5 and plant donations about 5:30, table sale at 7 and the auction at 7:15. I have attached a flyer with more complete info, and a donor introduction letter. We could use your help in various ways – Post the flyer where you can: libraries, nurseries, markets We always need more hands for setup and cleanup We need runners to deliver plants We need people to dig and donate their plants (tax deductible) We need people to solicit donations from their favorite nursery. I have attached a form that can be given to the donor for tax purposes We need people to come and buy plants. (This is the easy and fun one!) Please contact me with any of the ways that you might be willing to help the auction. Remember that the money raised is used to fund our scholarships at the UConn school of Agriculture and at Naugatuck Valley Community College Leslie Enkianthus (shown here)grows best in full sun but will tolerate light shade. It prefers a moist, well-drained, acidic soil, rich in organic matter. It is resistant to insects, disease and deer. The shrub retains its seed pods and is a good source of food for northern juncos in winter. Fall color is spectacular, with the leaves turning brilliant reds and oranges. It is definitely our favorite shrub for fall color.
