A Message from the Indiana State Police regarding HAZARDOUS ROAD - TopicsExpress

A Message from the Indiana State Police regarding HAZARDOUS ROAD CONDITIONS in Northwest Indiana: Drivers should be aware of the potentially hazardous conditions on the interstates in Northwest Indiana. Road conditions specifically I-80/94 and I-65 throughout the state police district which include the counties of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, Jasper, Pulaski and Starke are snow packed, icy and blown over. Numerous slide-offs and crashes have occurred on these interstates. Throughout Friday evening and into Saturday, January 25, 2014 morning hours new snow has fallen, with big wind gusts and sub zero temperatures. This has made icing/black ice on a large portion of the roadways, bridges and ramps. INDOT crews have been spreading salt, abrasives, etc. throughout this time, but with these conditions it has become extremely challenging to keep up with this weather event. Motorists asked to PLEASE rethink your trip, staying off the roads entirely in the safest option. If you MUST drive today ADJUST your speed for conditions. Slow down, give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and be diligent to conditions on the road. Remember to move over and slow down when you see emergency lights and give INDOT plow trucks room to work. For up to date information, citizens may contact the Indiana Department of Transportation Road and Weather Line at 800-261-7623 or visit the Indiana Department of Transportation website at trafficwise.in.gov.
