A NEW GAME I INVENTED!! While briefly in New York City to film THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA, I treated myself to this low-fat, highly puritanical snack: bacon n egg pizza with hollandaise. All right, not paleo. But so good. Also did some major people-watching on the Upper east side. Which gave rise to a new game I play by myself which I call: Splendid! Splendid! GRISLY! For example: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well-heeled New Yorkers in their 60s heed their doctors orders: SPLENDID! They take up jogging and/or yoga: SPLENDID! Pleased with what they see in the mirror (which, treacherously, only shows them the front view) they go everywhere, including restaurants where I am eating bacon n egg pizza, dressed head to toe in unforgiving lycra. They have no knowledge of the back view. GRISLY!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Yorkers in their thirties have children SPLENDID! They decide to save their offspring the shortcomings of their own upbringings: SPLENDID! They kneel down to the children in the middle of the sidewalk, negotiating, wheedling and explaining themselves, as if they and the children are equals, creating snot-smeared tyrants GRISLY!!!
