A NEW ILLUMINATION Hail modern world! where imagination organizes nothing, but everything technology driven: done in a mechanical mould. Pegasus is flogged dead. The poet’s fancy flutters wingless in vain, transfixed in work-a-day world: conception to creation every action programmed. Creativity sans imagination, vision sans contemplation, make the Muse pay a heavy toll: every art has suffered a triple fall. Art today doesn’t express or represent truth, beauty, goodness: its pivotal element, consigns every artistic convention and canon into the dungheap of fossilized tradition. To explore the esoteric zones, art worker must visit other worlds, the other times for inspiration, even draw from ancient traditions. Travel to other continents for fresh motifs, stepping aside mines of explosives, construct beyond deconstruction reinterpret stereotypes and dead conventions. An axiomatic truth of art: language in a vacuum voids all authentic experience, any misread or disread of text destroys the deeper meaning. When the text and context dies, doctoring of truth becomes routine in name of opening up new horizons; the art of misspeak touches new heights. To be a master artist you have to fight all camonflage, all clitche, all conceit, all dissociation of sensibility, all enslaving conventions. Mind’s alchemy must transmute and light every experience, every reflection, every cognition, every perception, till the truth shines out, transparent bright. Every word or medium must burn with a new illumination in the here and now, and in the larger context of life and time. (Yayati)
