A NOTE FROM MUMMY: Today it was my duty to do the tally for Haris laps. I walked through the doors and towards the poolside, worrying slightly as Haris was feeling a little under the weather yesterday. The lifeguards were very welcoming and immediately got me a chair to sit down on, and before I knew it I had a large glass of water to keep me cool in the hot surroundings. I got comfortable and then saw Haris come down all changed and looking ready. He handed over his water bottle and jumped straight in. I began to start recording his laps....1, 2, 3 and so on. As I sat there counting and thinking about the purpose of this mighty task, I realised that I needed to do a quick count of how far Haris had got - 25. My heart sank and I felt I wanted to pull him out of the water and hold him really tight. That was my motherly instinct kicking in (because his dad had been fine doing this job since hes started the swim). Thats when it hit me the pain that Haris was going through could not even begin to compare to that of the Palestinian children. The helplessness that I felt on the poolside was not even an iota worth of the helplessness of the Palestinian mothers. I could hear the lifeguards commending Haris spirit and passion in the background, but all I could think of was what I would feed him when he finished to replenish his energy. The mothers of Palestine must have worries on a completely different level. It got to lap 59, and Haris suddenly stopped - and I felt I wanted to say just stop. This term must cross the minds of the Palestinian mothers a thousand times in a single day towards the atrocities targeted at them. A.H, despite all my emotions Haris completed his 6th mile today. And A.H I realise today more than ever, how tremendously fortunate we are that as parents we do not have the agonising pain of protecting our children the way some of our Muslim brothers and sisters have to. Today Haris will get a lovely leg massage and lots of TLC - and we will pray together for the children of Palestine. May Allah protect them and safeguard them forever and always. Please please remember, all this is for a cause towards which as Muslims is our duty to help! DONATE NOW ON justgiving/swim4palestine
