A NOTE OF GRATITUDE ON BEHALF OF THE NGUTSHANE FAMILY: BY ANN TSHEPO NGUTSHANE As part of my educational profile - I hold a Teacher’s diploma and a BA in History and Psychology. True to my profession as a historian allow me to indulge you and thank the following people: Thank you to the Principal of Naledi High School Kenneth Mavatulana for putting up with us and for allowing us the space to celebrate the school, the class of 76 and in particular my better half Enos Ngutshane. Without you sir this would not be possible, when all is said and done you are the head of the school. I THANK YOU SIR FOR YOUR VISION REGARDING TURNING NALEDI HIGH AROUND AND PLANNING TO MAKE IT A TRULLY HERITAGE SCHOOL. I would like to thank Eunice Molefe for the Naledi High Commemorative Dialogue book that she wrote the dedication in bringing the Naledi High Schools legacy alive. Thank you to both her and her husband Charles. You are selfless human beings and by the way it is a rare yet critical attribute, may God bless you abundantly. Thank you to Tshepo Maphosa for your support to the Principal, your commitment and steadfastness, to the general process. You have both your heart and soul in correcting history and this makes you an educator that is true to the profession. Thank you to the flowers of the revolution; Keneilwe, Sibongile, Gift, Mpho, Ntuntu, Vivian, “Hope”, Khosi and Valencia, you are simply amazing. Going forward, let’s come up with a healthy diet and stop the soul food of vetkooeks, white liver and snoek. Thank you to Modupi the community leader; comrade o bosso and your humbleness yet assertive demeanour will ensure that we establish the hero’s square in deep SOWETO. The day we launch it comrades Barney Molokoane, Chief Twala, etc will rest in eternal glory. Let’s do it in our life time. Thank you to the teachers for the improvement in the pass rate. Thank you to my homey MEC Maile for your commitment to correcting history, you are a true citizen of Township and note the pronunciation. Thank you Premier Nomvula for leading the correct root of the march, June 16 2013 will go down in the annals of History as the day Nomvula led the march that retraced the footsteps from the gate of Naledi to the gates of Orlando stadium, the day that history was corrected. History is a social science and it is incumbent upon people to record it correctly be it oral or written. It has to be done a couple of times to have it engrained as it has become a truth that the march started at Morris. Each heritage school played a role and the role must be recorded truthfully. We cannot change history it will catch up with us. Thank you to FNB for having launched your add; where it all started, this in my view started the debate about where did the 1976 march start, who were the architects and leaders. I wish to distance myself from the questionable report that was posted on public platforms; however, there was nothing wrong with the advertisement that was broad casted life from Naledi High School. Thank you to the class of 76 SA will forever be indebted to you, when you sneezed, the entire nation caught a cold, and the revolution was re invented and it is not a hypothesis, it is the truth. Much more has to be done to celebrate all of you. An overarching thank you to the one and only Enos Senise Ngutshane; my husband and father of my children, you have been my hero since I was 18 and it will never change. Your acts of bravery have positioned the Ngutshane family and it has earned the family name place in the history of our struggle and in the wars of resistance. Today, we walk tall and we are counted amongst the many brave families that took part in liberating our people. There are many people who were formally recognised by the powers that be for the role they played in 1976. You were amongst the architects and leaders and you especially displayed daring and brave acts of activism; yet, you were never formally recognized for the role you played in 76. Now that you have started telling your story, continue doing so for SA MUST KNOW THE TRUE HISTORY. You are the lion of deep SOWETO. Your modest voice will ultimately reach the length and breadth of our country. The mural at Naledi High School is the best recognition ever. Thank you Naledi High the great school on the golden west. Thank you to the community of deep SOWETO. Heroes and Heroines of the struggle you have a voice, tell your story.
