A NOTE ON REVELATION CHAPTER 10 In Revelation Chapter 10 John sees a mighty angel whose “face was like the sun and feet like pillars of fire” descend from heaven holding a little book in his hand. As the angel lands with his feet on both the sea and the land, he declares that a time is coming when the mystery of God would be revealed. John is asked to take the book from the angels hand and eat it. The book tastes sweet like honey in his mouth but becomes bitter in his stomach. Here we can learn that although God’s word was sweet, the gravity of what was about to take place would be bitter. John was being prepared to prophesy about the final judgment that would be coming to the earth. As children of God, it is so important that we take God’s Word seriously. In Matthew 5:18 Jesus says, “For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” We are to receive Gods Word with delight as the Bible is full of references to the sweetness it: Psalm 119:103 says, ‘How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Jeremiah 15:16 says, “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my hearts delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty.” As believers it is important that we take in the whole counsel of God’s Word and ‘eat it’ like John did. What God says is not always what we want to hear, but His Word is the truth, and it is that truth that makes us free. Let us do as Jesus said in John 8:31-32: If you continue in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
