A NOTE TO OUR SENIOR FOOTBALL PLAYERS This is it guys, the seasons had started! From pee wee football, to junior high, freshman year, and now as you start what probably is your last year of organized football ever, keep the following things in mind: Soak up every second of your senior year because it will go quickly and you will miss it, all of it! Even the two-a-days in 90 degree weather! You will miss the smells. The smell of the chilling fall air, that to you will forever become the smell of football! Youll miss the smell of the grass as youre stretching before practices or a game.Youll miss the smell of the mud that sticks to your face mask.Youll miss the not-so-pleasant smell of your sweat drenched shoulder pads. Youre going to miss the camaraderie. Football is a brotherhood. Its the type of brotherhood where if anyone gives a cheap shot to even your worst enemy on the team, you will go after them with fury in your eyes and heart. Your wounds and injuries now will become stories and battle scars. Remember that while football doesnt teach you specific facts that help you become successful, it does teach and instill so many character traits that if applied, will assure success in your life. Treasure and appreciate your football career, but dont live in the past. Make your experience in football the catalyst for a greater life, not the apex of a sad future. Football will always be part of your identity. Whenever you are asked, did you play football in high school? ...you will probably just answer yeah. ...but that one word will have sooo much attached to it! That adrenaline that you feel right before kickoff, or after a big last second win, is something that can never be duplicated… We call them butterflies, and you will long for them forever. Playing football in Ohio brings with it a certain degree of respect. Its a pretty big deal in our state. Use that respect to set the right kinds of examples. Youre in position to lead... not follow Congratulations! You now belong to a very exclusive fraternity. One that you paid admission with your blood sweat and tears. its a fraternity that will last a lifetime. A fraternity that only you and your brothers will REALLY appreciate because, unless you played, you really just dont know! You will miss football, almost certainly, but no worries ....just live a good life and God will allow you to play again in heaven, and every night will become Friday Night Lights!
