A New Home A tiny endangered Florida panther started life during a cold snap in January. He was found close to death with a dangerously low body temperature when he was about a week old. Biologists and veterinarians performed life-saving measures to revive him. From the moment he was found, this little panther gathered interest from around the globe! Animal Specialty Hospital in Naples was his first home and then Tampas Lowry Park Zoo. Now he’s 7 months old and has a permanent home at Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park. His name is Yuma and he is continuing his fame as an animal ambassador to Florida! Since arriving at the park, Yuma has continued to thrive, gaining weight and strength and is now a healthy panther kitten. Today, Yuma will make the park his permanent home in the refurbished Panther Exhibit and you can visit him in person! August is Florida panther month at the park. Displays on Florida panthers and Yuma’s story will be on exhibit at the park’s visitor center. Click on the photos to see Yuma grow up and then go visit him and post your photos! Don’t forget to tag #PantherYuma! Florida residents can support conservation efforts like the rescue of this kitten by purchasing a Protect the Panther license plate at BuyaPlate. Fees from license plate sales are the primary funding source for the FWC’s research and management of Florida panthers.
