A North-Easter Winter Storm is expected to bring blizzard - TopicsExpress

A North-Easter Winter Storm is expected to bring blizzard conditions to Carteret and the region beginning this afternoon and continuing through Wednesday morning. The storm is predicted to bring 14-24 inches of snow and wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour. This will lead to extremely hazardous conditions on the roadways. It is requested that, during the duration of this storm, you limit travel to help insure the safety of yourself and others. Visibility will be low due to blowing snow. I am declaring a local state of emergency effective at noon today. Please obey all parking laws and signs and, where possible, remove vehicles from the roadway and into your driveway to facilitate the passage of snow plows and emergency equipment. Vehicles that remain on the street in designated emergency snow routes will be subject to towing and fines. All municipal plows and road salting equipment has been prepared and will begin the process of clearing streets as soon as conditions -warrant. Additionally, we have added on call contractors to assist in snow removal. With the expected wind gusts, the risks of downed power wires will be increased. If you encounter a downed wire, avoid contact and report it to PSE&G immediately by calling 1-800-436-7734. If you lose power and utilize a gas powered generator, never do so inside of your home or close to windows and doors. When clearing snow from your driveway and sidewalks, please remember that it is illegal to shovel or plow snow into the street and violators will be subject to ticketing and fines. Simply place it on your lawn. Finally, please remember to check on your family and neighbors, especially the elderly. We will get through this storm safely by working together, just like we have in the past! Check back here, on Twitter, Instagram, and our Borough website for continued updates.
