A PAIR OF ST. THOMAS FOOTBALL PLAYERS TO PLAY IN INTERNATIONAL BOWL . . . St. Thomas native Bill Aziz wasn’t crazy about football when he encountered the game as an eight-year-old rookie playing in the London Minor Football Association. His mother Margaret Aziz and father Duncan McLellan made him go back for a second season, and something clicked. “After that second year I really liked it, just because I figured out how to play,” said Aziz, 18, a St. Joseph’s Catholic High School grad who now plays for Vanier College CGEP in Montreal. “Nothing was new anymore. I understood everything.” Aziz stuck with the game and became an elite defensive lineman, so good he’ll play with Canada’s U19 Junior National Team at the International Bowl series in Arlington, Texas next week. He’s one of two St. Thomas natives selected to play in the International Bowl series. The other is Jessy Kocins, 17, who is slated to play for Canada’s national U18 team.
