A PLEA TO ALL CONCERNED Assalamualaikum This evening after parking my car near the Marion Masjid and then walking to the masjid for Esha (and Taraweeh) salaah I was abruptly impeded by a dear non-Muslim gentleman who was furious that someone (one of us, “mosque attendees” ) had parked their vehicle in front of his driveway. The gentleman held a baseball bat in his hands and threatened to smash the obstructing vehicle. There were another four non-Muslim neighbours who came out onto the street to witness the commotion. Each one of these respectable neighbours explained that they too are regularly inconvenienced by us Muslims who park their vehicle either blocking the driveway or right onto the driveway of their houses. One person indicated that he once was sworn at and got shown “the finger” when he tried to prevent someone from obstructing his driveway. Understandably the dear non-Muslim gentleman who was affected tonight proposed that the Masjid “shuts-down” and he stated further that he will be reporting his grievance to the media viz. the Advertiser and Channel 7. Alhamdulillah after much discussion and apologies on behalf of the culprits we were able to control the situation and avert potential (additional) harm to our community. The destructive effects that an incident like this has had on our Muslim community is immeasurable and it is something that we can absolutely NOT afford. We have a duty to obey the law, rules and regulations of Australia (or for that matter any other Muslim minority country we reside in). We should be here to open channels of communication with non-Muslims we live amongst and learn to build bridges with them. We should not become the means for their hatred of Islam! May I appeal to all, whom like myself, uses a car to get to the masjid to please be considerate to those dear non-Muslims and not do anything to inconvenience them. Non-Muslims are tired of hearing what we say Islam is; they need to see us become the role model incarnate. Inshallah we may all become an ambassador of Islam. Was Salaam muhammed
