A Perverse Irony for Republicans In an environment of free, accessible and accurate information, we can depend upon self informing and general understanding to educate the public so it can make correct choices. Consequently, there is less of a need for law to mandate or circumscribe action by the public or even address the issue or intervene. All law restrains freedom, to be sure. That is the primary purpose of law. However, systematic conservative propaganda and disinformation muddy the water badly, confuse the public and raise the specter of government enforced and mandated action by the public. Otherwise, mistaken or no choices will be made by the public and that is against the public interest. The irony is freedom loving conservatives are the most aggressive providers of false information and disinformation (e.g., the Koch brothers and their friends through their bogus think tanks) and the government action they thereby induce is usually laws that circumscribe the freedom of choice of everyone. This a back fire effect of conservative propaganda and disinformation. The irony is their own actions reduce their own freedom of choice.
