A QUESTION was presented to me: “If you’re saying that God is AGAINST the PROSPERITY DOCTRINE that so many PREACHERS and PROPHETS today are promoting as coming from God, are you saying that, like the Catholic Priests, God wants Christians to take a VOW of POVERTY?” My answer, after smiling, of course: “No, Jesus has NOT called us to take a VOW of POVERTY, but nor has He CALLED us to PURSUE after PERSONAL WEALTH, RICHES, or MATERIAL GAIN. What He has CALLED us to do, however, is to SEEK FIRST the Kingdom of God and His RIGHTEOUSNESS; and in doing so, God has PROMISED to TAKE CARE of ALL our NEEDS. We must be CAREFUL to NOT CONFUSE the DIFFERENCE between PERSONAL WANTS (wealth, riches, materialism, etc) and actual NEEDS (food, clothing, shelter, etc.). Jesus lets us KNOW that God is MORE INTERESTED in our PERSONAL SPIRITUAL GROWTH and DEVELOPMENT in RELATIONSHIP with Him than He is in our ACQUISITION of CARNAL THINGS. And since WE are in Christ LIVING SACRIFICES for God, we have NO RIGHT to SELF-DETERMINE what we SHOULD or SHOULD NOT have, NEED or WANT – ALL those DECISIONS fall under God’s JURISDICTION.” The PURSUIT of PROSPERITY in CARNAL terms makes one to live INDEPENDENT of God, and not DEPENDENT upon Him. Those FOLLOWING the PROSPERITY DOCTRINE of WEALTH and MATERIALISM aren’t doing any MORE for the HOMELESS, the IMPRISONED, the HUNGRY, the DISENFRANCHISED, or the SALVATION of the SINNER in this world than anyone else who may be LACKING MONEY and MATERIAL WEALTH. The PROSPERITY DOCTRINE is one of COVETOUSNESS and SELFISHNESS, and we KNOW that neither COVETOUSNESS nor SELFISHNESS is of God – but Satan!!!
