A REPOST... STRIKE??? NO TEACHERS? HAU - QUALITY EDUCATION - TopicsExpress

A REPOST... STRIKE??? NO TEACHERS? HAU - QUALITY EDUCATION PROVIDER ???? I DON’T THINK SO. NOT CURRENTLY I believe that everyone is familiar with SALT. A salt is a combination of Sodium and Chloride which are two different elements. Removing sodium from salt will result to chloride alone. This chloride will not resemble the properties of salt. Just like a room full of students without a teacher, it wouldn’t be considered a classroom. This room is simply a room, the elements of considering it a classroom are incomplete; No teacher who would lead the class. On the 15th of August, teachers from Holy Angel University have started fighting for their right of what they believe they deserve. Classes started to become irregular because majority of the teachers are part of the so called strike. Since Day 1 of the strike, my nephew goes to school but does not have classes to attend particularly the English subject, his first period, because they do not have a teacher. For almost three (3) weeks since the start of the strike, no teacher not even a substitute attended their class. To our surprise, last September 3, HAU’s HS Principal and Head of Discipline visited our home to inform us about my nephew‘s cutting class incident. I cannot blame my nephew and the rest of the students who are not attending their classes. Logical patterns are being thought as early as elementary and children of younger generations are much more intelligent as influenced by the foods that are being developed continuously as a result of advancement in science and technology. If for example given these numbers: 4, 5, 7, 10, 14 what will be the next number? The next number would be 19 because from the first number add 1 then add 2 then add3 and so on and so forth, meaning there is a pattern. It is similar with no teacher on Monday, no teacher on Tuesday, on Wednesday, on Thursday, on Friday and so on for the next two weeks. Same with the situation on first period, an English Class, there is a pattern that there would be no teacher. Students would not be wasting their time looking afar waiting for nothing. They are thinking of other ways on how to utilize their brain cells. It is really ironic that management of HAU visited our home to inform us about cutting classes and issue a school offense. They should have come instead to apologize for there was and still no teacher that would supervise our children during class hours. It is very frustrating that my nephew had a recorded offense because HAU cannot provide enough teachers. We should be blaming HAU on what is happening to these students and we should be the one complaining on the QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF EDUCATION HAU is providing. This “NO TEACHER SINCE THE START OF THE STRIKE” is not only happening on English Classes but also with other subjects like SCIENCE. In addition, it also happens to my other niece who is at a different year level. It is very disappointing that subjects that are being used in our everyday life and those that are very crucial to the success of our children are the ones taken for granted by HAU. One important thing that I should say to all of you, I can vouch for my nephew that it is NOT in his nature to cut class. The principal was defending that there were substitute teachers. Maybe some subjects were filled with substitute teachers but their competencies are questionable. First issue, are these substituting teachers really professional teachers with license from PRC? Or are they just merely student of BS Education? Next issue, are these substituting teachers competent and really specialized in the subjects they were assigned to handle? Imagine a Filipino Teacher substituting a class for Science? How can he/she explain for example Newton’s Law of Motion? This is something very technical for a Filipino Major Teacher. It is like an Accountant hired in a job to work in a laboratory (who is supposed to be a chemist or a food technologist). How can this accountant explain to his boss a phenomenon, for instance, a packed food turned brown in color but it is still not spoiled? This accountant cannot discuss to his boss about browning reaction because it is something technical. Last September 4, my sister-in-law had a meeting at the Principal’s Office. She asked if there was a teacher on the first period. Admittedly, they said that there was neither a teacher nor a substitute teacher for that subject. My sister-in-law asked again if there are substitute teachers for the other subjects and if they are qualified or if the subject is their area of specialization. Again, admittedly, they answered that some do not have substitute teachers and some teachers were only assigned as fillers to classes with no teachers. These teachers who are fillers are not specialized on these subjects they were assigned to. With these instances, can we consider it regular classes are on-going as claimed by HAU? How can we say that regular classes are on-going if some substitute teachers doesn’t seem to know the subject matter or worse, that there are no teachers since the start of the strike? It just shows that HAU is short-changing the students. How could you say now that you are providing quality education and preparing them for life? HAU’s management does not prioritize student’s welfare; they are more on protecting the integrity of the school. So much time has been wasted by our dear students. They go to school but do not have classes to attend, no lessons to learn, no good teachings to ponder. I may say to HAU, parents of your students are not blind. Children communicate to their parents. Parents do know what is happening to their children at school. With these situations, do not tell parents that everything is normal because it is not. The students are not the only victim here but also the parents. Parents work really hard in order to let their children study in a private school like HAU which they think will provide HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION. Parents do pay the correct tuition fees in order to secure their children’s future. But are all the hard work of the parents worth it? No! Students have not learned for the past three (3) weeks. Tuition fees should be discounted! Parents are paying for “No Teacher Classes or under qualified substitute teachers” which is so UNFAIR. This is similar to the pork barrel scam, citizens pay their taxes but we do not get the proper services by the government. Just like the parents who pay tuition fees for quality education but are currently being short-changed by HAU due to the lack of qualified and specialized teachers who are supposed to provide quality education to its students. I cannot blame the teachers who are on strike because it is within their right to fight for something they believe they deserve. I also cannot blame HAU for keeping its decision and letting the HAUTEU to go on strike but HAU has the grave responsibility to continuously provide quality education by having qualified and specialized teachers to all their students to replace those teachers on strike. Let me just ask you readers, what can we do about this? Are we just going to let the students be short-changed with quality education? What should HAU do about this? At this time, they are incapable of providing qualified teachers to teach the rest of their students? Where are the qualified teachers? They are behind the picket line? Should I blame these teachers behind the picket line? It seems that they too felt short-changed by the HAU Administration which was the very reason why they went on strike. So what can we do now? Do I need to make a complaint about this matter? To whom and where shall I address it? CHED? PAASCU? Do I need to collect signatures? And then what will happen next? But at the end of all these, still, the students are the victims –time wasted, denied quality education, losing a good future.
