A SHOUT out to my grandfathers, who served and fought in WW2. My - TopicsExpress

A SHOUT out to my grandfathers, who served and fought in WW2. My paternal grandfather served in the Eastern Theatre against the Japanese and as far as I know, did not speak of his experiences. For years after, he suffered with dysentery from the conditions that he and his comrades in arms experienced. My maternal grandfather was four years in a German POW camp, Stalag VII and in the punishment camp, Stalag VIIIB. He came back after the war, to his family, a changed man. THE RANT... These two men, and MILLIONS of men and women, before, during and since, deserve our respect and the highest of HONOUR. We as human beings, have a flaw, and it doesnt matter how much we sing give peace a chance or Kumbaya around the campfire, this flaw raises its ugly specter, year after year, generation after generation, ad nauseum. Conflict is all relative. War is ugly...but so is hating your neighbor because he is a different colour, envious because they have more stuff and resentful because they have two BMWs and you only have one. Because of this flaw, the smallest of conflicts, when nurtured and cultivated and fertilized can blow up into full blown warfare. These two men, and MILLIONS of men and women, before, during and since have given their lives to interrupt this process and allow my family and I to live and prosper in Canada in relative peace. I, for one, choose to HONOUR them today. I also choose to realize that it starts with me, today, in the way I think and act.
