A Sad Day It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Chimpanzee Susie has sadly passed away. The primate care staff had noticed that she was not herself and following investigations by specialist veterinarians she was diagnosed with an inoperable heart tumour. The news was devastating, there was simply nothing we could do, except make her as comfortable as possible and return her to her group to be with her family, sadly her condition deteriorated and we had to make the difficult decision to put her to sleep. Our decision was not taken lightly, especially as Susie was mum to 6 year old Bart & 12 year old Eddi, fortunately both are old enough to be fully independent now and of course they have the care and support of the whole of Paddy’s troop. Primate care staff are keeping a very close eye on them and both Bart and Eddi are coping well. Susie was one of the lucky ones, rescued in 1994, she had many years with us at the park, she was able to have her own family and was a much loved member of the group, she will be greatly missed.
