A Season for joy For my niece holly Everyone has the right to receive joy into their life. In this day of troubled times and uncertainty, it is ever more clear that we all could use a little more it, not only in our daily life, but in our very essence of who we are, even if we are a duck. It is easy to point out those who you perceive to be lacking in some respects the most elemental building blocks that are contained in the makeup. But is it so easy to point that spyglass inward and observe your own inter-workings, and ascertain what vital elements of self have been forgotten? Such elements as forgiveness, kindness and Oreos, the true building blocks of joy. In this introspection of self, I hope a little joy is found for all, so that they may take this in and be enabled to see their value to self and others, thereby creating a little more joy. And a little plus a little eventually equals a lot. Why wait for the holidays or other special occasions to find it? Why not seek it every day? Why not look for it in the big, little, grand and small, or even in a cup of coffee? Take the time to offer the best of yourself to all, even those who are less deserving. This may include oneself. Do not deny yourself the wonders that nature and all mankind has to offer, especially the magnificent smile of a stranger. Be ready at a moment’s notice to dry the tears of the despaired, warm the hearts of the tyrant, and cuddle with a small bunny or puppy. Learn to throw a party for the sake of funny hats, cupcakes, and the Kool-Aide stained smiles of little boys and girls. It’s nobodies birthday, it’s just because little Suzy got an “A”, or little Johnny finally put on a clean pair of socks. It’s not your Anniversary, it’s because she received the well earned promotion, or you finally put on a clean pair of socks. Wait, I said that already, well you get the point. Make everyday a reason to celebrate, every meal a banquet, and every scoop of chocolate ice cream count. Remember you can make every day, and every month of the year a holiday. Appreciate the long hours at work, so you can cherish every moment at home with those you love. Seek to share the very spirit of a Saturday when it is only Tuesday, the second Monday of the week. Live life to the fullest, so you can create precious memories, and not dreadful regrets. Find the courage in you to overcome whatever it is that paralyzed you with fear. Take the leap of faith in love and all the endeavors you dream about, even the dreams where you are in Dodger Stadium trying to steal home wearing nothing but flip-flops and a barrel to cover your naked pride. Hold dearly all of those who are important in your life, even when we disappoint. Remember it is not the car you drive on the journey it’s the people you are riding with, unless it’s a V-Dub, then it’s the car. So raise your glasses high and toast to the good and never mind the bad, and never forget bacon, bacon is good. Forgive My Mistakes
