A Shelter Friend takes great pride in being able to help Medical Emergencies that come into the shelter or who are found by animal control. We are not always able to save their lives but we do not want any animal dying without the benefit of a chance. Yesterday we had 2 horrific cases . First there was Dana, a very young hound pointer mix who had been hit by a car. She was taken to the vet, where after pain meds and x-rays, it was found that she had a spinal separation and we made the difficult decision to send her over the bridge. We are so sorry that that owners cannot keep their dogs off of roads. and you had to endure such pain and agony. Only hours later we got another call about a little Chihuahua laying on the side of the road. We called her Sugar and we did blood work fluids and a whole bunch of tests to save her little life. It was not meant to be, because little 5 lb Sugar died during the night. It is a very harsh fact of life that whether we are lucky enough to save an animal and watch them recover from a traumatic injury or loose them after every effort, we still have vet bills and in this case it is nearly $1000 for both dogs. If you appreciate that we try, that we do not want an animal dying in pain on the side of the road. That we are committed to giving them a chance, Please either donate on our page ashelterfriend.org or by calling the Elizabethtown Vet Hospital at 910-862-3000 to donate. We just cannot help without YOU!
