A “Shy Obama” ??? Larry Orvis, Norfolk, Nebraska 7/19/2014 AS I TUNE IN FOX NEWS THIS MORNING, I once again find them giving President Obama Hell for being so quiet, if not downright “Shy” in his response to Putin and his separatist Russian allies as they shot down a Malaysian Air, Commercial Passenger Jet, Flight 17, as it flew over the contested eastern territories of Ukraine, where Rebel forces, armed and equipped by Russia, and in fact led by a Russian (former?) intelligence military officer (a Putin CIA type Operative?) fired a Ground to Air missile (SAM) to leave it stringing wreckage and bodies along a 6 or more mile path once it fell to earth from 33,000 feet. Perhaps Obama is cowed by the knowledge that our own military has done something similar a few years back in the Persian Gulf, where an Aegis Class Cruiser (I believe) in the midst of being attacked by Iranian PT type vessels, confused two Iranian fighter jets taking off in Iran with an Iranian Commercial Jet Liner and after repeated warning to turn away, fired missiles to likewise bring it down, thinking it was an enemy aircraft, just as the Rebel in Ukraine did. Nothing in either of these incidences for either the United States or Russia to be proud of. In fact, both incidences are utterly tragic not only in the loss of human life, but in the mistaken notion that they were shooting at enemies, and not, innocent men, women, and children who were only trying to get somewhere they wanted to be, and paid air fares to get there! So what is the difference between what we did off the coast of Iran, and what the Russians, or at least their proxy, did in Ukraine’s eastern breakaway provinces? We were there trying to protect the world’s supply of crude oil and keep it flowing, not only to ourselves and to Europe, but also to China. And Russia? Why were they in Ukraine? I guess to reconstitute the old Soviet Empire and glory of Russia from days gone by. Pity however, that in trying to get Russian Speaking eastern province Ukrainians, to once again be a part of Russia, that they look much like Nazi Germany working behind the scenes to take over Austria prior to World War II, and then, Czechoslovakia, and not just its German speaking borderlands, but the whole country! Then came Poland…. And, well. as students of history, you surely know the rest of the story!
